Our mission is to improve educational, social, and health outcomes of all children in Meriden.

The Meriden Children First Initiative offers members of the Meriden community a variety of free services including parent leadership programs and peer groups that further its purpose of improving the educational, social and health outcomes of Meriden children.

Programs

Parent Leadership Training Institute

Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) teaches democracy skills to parents so they can be more effective advocates for their children. This 20-week course, created by the Commission on Children, offers free childcare and meals. A new class begins each January. Click here to apply

People Empowering People

People Empowering People (PEP) is a Spanish-language leadership development training.

The Meriden Family Zone

The Meriden Family Zone is a pilot project that builds community and connects families in downtown Meriden with services, activities, events and each other to help their children get the most out of school and life. The MFZ is modeled on the highly successful Harlem Children’s Zone.
